Grand Haven man dead, daughter injured after being hit by alleged drunken driver.

"SULLIVAN TOWNSHIP, MI – A Grand Haven man is dead and his young daughter was injured after their vehicle was hit head-on by an alleged drunken driver.

(Censored), 37, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Heights-Ravenna Road near Ensley Road in Sullivan Township. His daughter was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Mercy Health Partners’ Hackley Hospital.
Shumaker was driving a Ford Focus west on Heights-Ravenna around 4:20 p.m. Saturday when an eastbound 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle heading east, Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department. The pickup truck driver lost control in wet, rainy conditions and slammed head-on into the Ford.
The truck’s driver was treated and released at Hackley Hospital, then lodged in the Muskegon County Jail on charges of drunken driving resulting in death. His name is not being released pending arraignment on the drunken driving charges.
A Muskegon County sheriff's deputy was injured in a separate accident near Heights-Ravenna and Maple Island roads while responding to the head-on collision. Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler said the deputy's vehicle went off the road and crashed into a ditch.
The deputy suffered nonlife-threatening back injuries, according to radio traffic from Muskegon County Central Dispatch. His name was not released on Saturday.
The sheriff’s department and Michigan State Police continue to investigate both accidents."
