"GLENCOE, Ky. - A patient who was being taken to an area clinic for
medical treatment died Tuesday after the ambulance he was riding in was
struck by another vehicle and overturned in Northern Kentucky.
Two
members of the Gallatin County Fire Department were transporting (censored), 59, of Dry Ridge, when an SUV struck the ambulance on U.S. 127
near Tapering Pointe Road in Glencoe just before 10 a.m.
Police
say the SUV, driven by Hunter LeGrand, 22, of Warsaw, struck a pole and a
mailbox before crossing the center line and colliding with the
ambulance head-on.
The ambulance overturned and landed on its roof.
Little
was flown to University Hospital by a medical helicopter where he died
from his injuries. An EMT who was in the back of the ambulance with
Little, David Waltz, 25, of Carrollton, was also flown to University
Hospital by a medical helicopter.
The driver of the ambulance, Justin Shields, 21, of Ghent, was transported by another ambulance to University Hospital.
LeGrand
had to be extricated from his vehicle before he was flown to University
Hospital by a medical helicopter. Police believe he was under the
influence of drugs when the accident occurred.
The conditions of the other victims have not been released.
Charges against LeGrand are pending.
The crash remains under investigation."
