"(HILLSBORO, Oregon) - Today, at about 12:30 a.m.,
19-year-old Stephanie Curtiss of Rock Creek was driving west on NW West
Union Road, just west of NW Cornelius Pass Road. She lost control of the
car as she entered a curve with a suggested speed (yellow speed sign)
of 35 m.p.h.
The car left the road and entered the yard at 20130 NW
West Union Road, damaging shrubs as it passed through the yard. The car
then entered the adjacent yard at 20160 NW West Union Road, sheering off
two trees and uprooting a third before crashing into the porch. The car
then started to roll, striking a parked car in the driveway before
hitting a garage door and coming to rest in its roof.
Ms. Curtiss and two adult male passengers were all
wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. They were all able to
climb from the wrecked car on their own. All three were transported to
St. Vincent’s Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No
one else was injured during this crash.
Ms. Curtiss said she tried to avoid a deer in the road
and veered into the yard where she lost control of her car. Deputies
speculate that she was driving significantly faster than the speed limit
(45 MPH). The case is still under investigation and no one has been
charged. Alcohol or drug use do not appear to be factors. The homeowners
estimated the combined damage at over $10,000."
