Sheriff: Suicidal woman, 70, crashed head-on into pickup.

Date: 11/02/2011
Time: Around 10:30 P.M.
Location: Boise, Idaho
Vehicle(s) Involved: Buick LaCrosse, Dodge Dakota, Ford F-250

"BOISE, Idaho - A three car crash Wednesday morning was caused by a 70-year-old woman who was apparently trying to kill herself by driving into oncoming traffic, the Ada County, Idaho, Sheriff's Office says.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of State Street and Bogart Lane.

The sheriff's office says the woman from Eagle, Idaho, was driving a Buick LaCrosse eastbound on State State when she swerved into oncoming traffic and attempted to hit an oncoming vehicle. The two cars missed each other and the Buick returned to the proper lane.

But as the woman approached Bogart Lane, she again swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck, causing it to roll.

The 64-year-old driver of the truck was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He is currently in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Doctor's say he is expected to survive, but he remains in critical condition.

The sheriff's office says after the Buick hit the Ford truck, it then also struck the Dodge pickup truck that was driving behind the Ford. The 16-year-old driver of the Dodge was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

Officials say the 70-year-old driver of the Buick was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Investigators say she told them she intentionally drove into oncoming traffic to attempt to kill herself.

The sheriff's office says that charges are pending against the 70-year-old woman, and that after its investigation it will forward that information to the prosecutor's office.

The woman's name is being withheld until charges have been filed."

By Lauren Hargrove

"Following a fatal car crash in Sacramento, California, Interstate 5 was shut down for two hours while officers and emergency personnel pieced together the circumstances of the crash. KCRA reported that black Corvette had collided with a semi-truck near the Garden Highway off-ramp. Initial reports stated that the two people in the Corvette were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. After viewing the graphic pictures on the KCRA website it is hard to imagine that anyone could have survived the collision after seeing what remained of the Corvette. According to the Sacramento Bee, the female passenger succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash. (censored), 65, of Elk Grove, California died after the Monday November 7, 2011 collision.

According to others to who witnessed the accident, the driver of the Corvette was in the far left lane when the car was spotted weaving in the lane. Shortly after weaving in and out of the lane, the driver lost control of the car causing it to clip a passenger car before slamming into the side of the semi-truck. After the Corvette slammed into the large truck it went off the embankment near the Garden Highway exit. Currently, there are no reports on the condition of driver or what may have caused him or her to lose control of the car that fateful morning. Elba woman killed when car strikes tree on North Byron Road.

Date: 11/08/2011
Time: Around 03:50 P.M.
Location: Elba, New York
Vehicle(s) Involved: Buick Century

By Howard Owens - The Batavian

"State Police investigators are still uncertain about what caused a car heading westbound on North Byron Road this afternoon to go off the south shoulder and strike a tree on the driver's side.
Impact was right at the driver's seat and the car wrapped around the tree nearly to the point of the passenger's seat.
The driver, (censored), 67, of Elba, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Robert Yungfleisch.
The accident occurred about a half mile east of Log City Road, Elba.
Trooper John Szymkowiak was first on the scene and said he checked Brown's vitals and did not detect a pulse. He requested Mercy Flight be dispatched to the scene.
An Elba medic arrived minutes later and the medic was also unable to detect a pulse and other vital signs were negative. Mercy Flight was canceled at that point.
The initial call to 9-1-1 was at about 3:50 p.m. by another westbound driver who came over the top of a hill, just east of the accident location, and saw the car strike the tree.
The witness did not see enough prior to impact to help provide information on what caused Brown's car to go off the road.
Szymkowiak said it appeared Brown started to go off the road about 100 feet prior to impact with the tree and there were some signs of braking on the road surface.
"The cause is still under investigation," Szymkowiak said. "It could have been a medical issue. It could have been a deer in the roadway. We are looking at several things right now."
An autopsy will be completed to try and determine if the cause was medical."

Police: Teen Driver in Fatal Crash Was Drunk.

Date: 11/29/2011
Time: Around 05:35 A.M.
Location: West Hempstead, New York
Vehicle(s) Involved: Honda Civic, Hyundai Santa Fe

By LISA EVERS

"MYFOXNY.COM - Police on Long Island said that an 18-year-old driver was drunk when she lost control of her car at an intersection and crashed into a brick wall. She hit the wall with so much force that her passenger was killed.
Authorities charged Daritza Lopez, 18, of Uniondale, with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and unlicensed operator.
The compact car ended up lodged in the wall of a furniture store. That made it difficult for first responders to rescue Lopez and her passenger, who died at the scene.
Police said the intoxicated and unlicensed teenager behind the wheel sideswiped a parked car on Hempstead Turnpike and then lost control of her vehicle.
Building inspectors determined that the wall was in danger of collapse so they ordered the furniture store to be shut down until it could be shored up."
