"(RAINIER, Ore.) - One person is confirmed deceased
Tuesday morning following a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway
30 about three miles east of Rainier. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers
report Highway 30 is completely blocked and may be for several hours.
A suggested detour for northbound and southbound
traffic that needs to travel through this area on Highway 30 is to use
the Longview/Kelso bridge and Interstate 5 routes. An alternative route
to get to or from the Oregon coast is to use Highway 26.
According to OSP Master Sergeant Larry Lucas,
preliminary information indicates on November 30, 2010 at approximately
6:00 a.m. a sport utility vehicle driven by an adult male was northbound
on Highway 30 near milepost 43 when it drifted onto the shoulder.
The driver over-corrected to the left into the
southbound lane where it collided head-on with a large truck. The sport
utility vehicle's driver was ejected and pronounced deceased at the
scene. The truck's driver was not injured.
No more information will be released until later today following the on-scene investigation and attempts to notify next of kin.
OSP troopers are being assisted at the scene by ODOT and Columbia River Fire & Rescue."
