"Winnipeg police are investigating a serious car crash on Portage Avenue at Winchester Street in Winnipeg.

The collision happened just after 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.
One person was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Initially, officers believed the person injured was a pedestrian.
Friday afternoon, police said an investigation determined the person injured had been ejected from a vehicle.
A Chrysler Intrepid was headed westbound on Portage Avenue when it was involved in a collision with a Honda Civic trying to turn eastbound on Portage Avenue at Winchester Street, said police.
The 72-year-old female driver of the Civic was thrown from the vehicle in the crash, causing serious injury. She was taken to hospital in critical condition. Two occupants in the Intrepid received non-life-threatening injuries, said police.
Eastbound traffic at Overdale Street and westbound traffic at Linwood Street was re-routed as officers investigated. Around 1:30 p.m. Friday, police said the area had re-opened to traffic.
Members of the central traffic unit continue to investigate the crash."
