"A Magnolia man died Saturday from injuries sustained in an accident about 1:42 a.m.
(censored), 33, 816 S. Vine, was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center by Columbia County Ambulance Service. He was transferred to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock but was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m. Evidence at the scene suggested that Williams was driving a Chevrolet Blazer southbound when it left the roadway where the street curves sharply to the left near South Side Park. The vehicle hit a sign and overturned at least once in the yard of a home at 608 Calhoun Road.
The vehicle landed upright, coming to rest only a few feet from the house. There was heavy damage to the front left side of the Blazer. The roof of the driver’s area was compacted by the force of the roll.
Ironically, the accident was discovered and reported by Columbia County Coroner Randy Reed. Reed said he was returning from a trip to Houston when he drove by the scene. His initial impression was that the Blazer was parked at a strange angle next to the house. Reed turned around, drove back and took a closer look. He found that Williams had been ejected and was on the ground in a driveway between the Blazer and the house, hidden from view from the street. Williams was “in bad shape,” Reed said. The coroner called 911.
Magnolia Police, Columbia County Ambulance Service and Linkous Wrecker responded.
According to a preliminary report filed with Arkansas State Police, Williams was not wearing a seat belt. Sgt. Robert Philson of the Magnolia Police Department investigated the accident.
Williams’ death is Columbia County’s third fatal vehicle accident of 2012 and the second since last Saturday. There were 10 vehicle-related deaths in the county in 2011."
