"No one was seriously injured Wednesday morning when a vehicle slammed into a fast food restaurant in southeast Atlanta.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, four vehicles — a Lincoln Navigator, a Ford Expedition, a pickup truck and an Audi — were involved in a wreck about 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Moreland and East Confederate avenues, and the Navigator came to a stop inside the nearby Zesto restaurant.
GSP Senior Trooper Larry Schnall said that the driver of the Expedition was southbound on Moreland Avenue when she lost control, striking several other vehicles and setting off a chain reaction crash.
The Navigator “traveled airborne into the building, causing significant damage to the establishment,” Schnall said. “Fortunately, no one was inside.”
The restaurant was scheduled to open at 10 a.m., according to the Zesto’s website.
Schnall said three of the four drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were believed to be minor. He said investigators had not yet determined what caused the Expedition driver to lose control of her vehicle.
“Myself and my partner were across the street and partially witnessed this accident,” Schnall told the AJC. “We saw the Navigator go airborne into the building, and my first reaction was, wow, if this place was open for business, someone very well could have been seriously injured or multiple fatalities.”"

"GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Accident Investigation Unit is looking into a fatal crash that happened in Grand Island just before 1p.m. Sunday afternoon.
56-year-old Barry Vanderbrook of Grand Island was operating the vehicle when he lost control causing him to leave the road and crash into a pole and tree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crews from the Grand Island Fire Company responded to the scene and extricated the driver from the truck.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation"

"On 01.12.2012 at 0718 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a three vehicle crash on Board Road at May Drive in Manchester Township.
Investigation found that 1999 Jeep Cherokee was being operated eastbound on May Drive by Justin Conlen age 26 of Mount Wolf.  The Conlen vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Board Road and pulled into the path of a southbound 2000 Freightliner tractor trailer being operated by Christopher Clagget age 30 of York.  This impact forced the Conlen vehicle to strike a northbound Ford minivan being operated by Kevin Cartier age 35 of Edgewater Park, MD.
Conlen had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Manchester Township Department of Fire Services.  He was flown to York Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Claggett and Cartier were uninjured."

Family sustains minor injuries after Manchester Township crash.

"On 10.15.2012 at 1609 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Starview Road and Liverpool Turnpike in Manchester Township.
Investigation found that a 1997 Subaru operated by Jenneifer Reed age 30 of Lewisberry failed to negotiate a left hand curve on Starview Road.  The Reed vehicle travelled off of the roadway, struck a stump, and overturned coming to rest on an embankment.  The vehicle was resting against a tree.
The Manchester Township Department of Fire Services had to extricate Reed and her two young sons from the vehicle.  All were transported to York Hospital for minor injuries."

"On 09.18.2012 at 0953 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a three vehicle crash on Brandywine Lane near Leaf Street in Manchester Township.
Investigation found that a 2009 Chevrolet sedan operated by Rosemary Weaver age 65 of Manchester was travelling eastbound on Brandywine Lane when she failed to negotiate a right hand curve.  Weaver’s vehicle left her lane of travel and entered the eastbound lane where it first struck a trailer being pulled by Michael Dravk age 48 of Conewago Township.  The Weaver vehicle then struck an eastbound 2011 Hyundai operated by Paul Williams age 52 of York head on.
Weaver was transported to Memorial Hospital for moderate injuries.  Neither Dravk nor Williams were injured."

"HURRICANE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Hildale/Colorado City Ambulance crashed into a Dodge Caravan and injured eleven on Saturday night.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, the ambulance was transporting a stroke victim, Ben Barlow, to Dixie Regional Hospital. EMT Lizzie Barlow of Colorado City was driving, and the patient's wife Martha Barlow was also in the ambulance, along with other EMTs and paramedics.

Officials say the minivan, driven by Christian Affolter of Switzerland, was traveling through the intersection of State Road 9 on a green light and began to turn left when the ambulance entered the intersection and t-boned the minivan.

Of the three passengers in the minivan, 8-year-old Serena Affolter sustained the majority of the impact and suffered extremely critical injuries. The other passengers, Daniela Affolter and 12-year-old Nicola Affolter, also suffered serious injuries. Serena was life flighted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

The passengers in the ambulance also sustained injuries, including a dislocated shoulder, officials say.

Ambulance driver Lizzie Barlow was issued a citation for traffic control signal violation."

Passenger killed when SUV hits tree head-on.

"SCIO, Ore. - A driver lost control of his SUV and crashed head-on into a tree Saturday afternoon.

His wife died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

Oregon State Police said Oliver E. James, 79, of Scio was eastbound on Highway 226 when his 1986 Chevy Blazer went off the road and crashed head-on into a tree.

The crash critically injured his wife, Shirley J. James, 76, who was riding in the passenger seat. She was rushed to Salem Hospital by ambulance, where she was later pronounced dead.

Oliver James was taken to Stayton Hospital and later transferred to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.

Police said the couple were not using seat belts.

Troopers from Albany are continuing the investigation."

Man dies in one-car accident on Highway 349.

"One man died Thursday night from injuries sustained from a one-car accident on State Highway 349.

According to Midland police, the cause of the eighth vehicle fatality in Midland this year is currently unknown. Special Operations Lt. Ray Leible said he does not believe speeding or alcohol was involved in the crash.
At 6:20 p.m., Midland police responded to the accident at the 6400 block of Highway 349, where Donald Gene Rowan, 61, was found to be deceased at the scene. Rowan was driving south on Highway 349 when he lost control of his car and struck a pipe fence, causing his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer to roll over one time, according to police. Rowan was wearing his safety belt, according to a press release by Ryan Stout, interim public information officer for the city.
Helicopters were on the scene taking aerial photographs of the accident.
“It’s sad,” Leible said. “Any fatality is one too many.”
Kendall Ross, a truck driver at the scene of the accident, said he saw a large cloud of dust after the crash occurred. When the dust settled, Ross said he could see the driver was not moving.
The accident investigation is ongoing and the next of kin have been notified, officials said."

Semi runs over car on Gene Snyder near I-65.

"LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265/KY 841) after a crash involving a semi tractor-trailer and a car near the approach to Interstate 65.
According to MetroSafe Dispatch, the accident was reported at 9:54 a.m. From Air 3, it appeared the car was run over and crushed by the semi. Debris from the wrecked vehicle could be seen in front of and on the driver side of the semi rig.
One person injured in the wreck was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital. There has been no word on their condition.
The eastbound lanes of the Snyder were blocked while emergency crews worked at the accident scene. Louisville Metro Police are diverting traffic from the eastbound Snyder onto National Turnpike. Traffic caught behind the accident scene was allowed to exit the Snyder and get onto I-65. The westbound fast lane traffic on the Snyder was also affected by emergency equipment.
The eastbound Snyder was reopened to traffic around 3:30 p.m."

"LITTLE ROCK, AR – Little Rock Police are investigating a fatality accident on S. University near I-30. At least two people are dead.

Police say the accident was caused by a red Lincoln and a silver Oldsmobile Cutlass racing southbound on University around 4pm Tuesday. The two cars clipped each other and the Lincoln lost control and wrapped around a pole. Police say the driver, 33-year-old Kenyata Lake, died on impact; the passenger, 22-year-old Jasmine Smith, was critically injured and died about one hour after the accident.

The Cutlass, which was driven by 19-year-old Lamar Day, crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic. Police say it sideswiped an Avalanche, which in turn sideswiped a school bus. There were no kids on the school bus at the time. The Cutlass then ran head-on into another vehicle, which Oneshia McKinney was a passenger.  She sat in the backseat as her classmate and their driver's education teacher talked to them about safe driving.  He spotted the drag race and told them that's the typ of driving they should avoid.

"To see the same thing he just told us not to do it, we know now that's not what to do because we have experienced this with other people," said McKinney."

Stolen car went airborne in fatal wreck.

"PHOENIX -- A suspected car thief is dead after driving car into some concrete barriers in the area of 31st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard early Thursday morning.
According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department, the car was reported stolen from 4800 W. Encanto shortly before 4:30 a.m.
Both aerial and ground video from the scene show the mangled car, a 1986 Buick National, on its side.
The driver, an unidentified Hispanic male believed to be in his early 20s, was speeding east on Encanto Boulevard when he failed to negotiation the turn where the roadway bends on to southbound 31st Avenue.
"There's a concrete barrier there with some signage," explained Phoenix Police Lt. Chris Moore.
The car hit that concrete barrier went airborne, flying over a 7-foot chain-link fence before landing in a dirt lot. The Buick burst into flames on impact.
Bystanders ran to the car and put out the fire, but they were not able to save the driver.
Moore said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. That man died at the scene.
While it's not yet clear is alcohol or drugs were a factor in the deadly crash, Moore said speed is likely partially to blame."

Man suffers 'severe' injuries in Nicholasville wreck on US 27.

"The driver of a Honda CRV was transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center with what police called “severe injuries” after his vehicle collided with a white truck on U.S. 27 in Nicholasville on Friday morning. The man’s name has not been released.

The CRV was traveling south on U.S. 27 between Howard and Elizabeth streets around 7:50 a.m. when it crossed into northbound lanes and struck a white Ford work truck, according to Nicholasville police Sgt. Jason Porch.
The vehicles came to rest about 80 yards apart.
“One of the witnesses who was sitting beside one of the two cars said, ‘Out of the blue, I just saw the impact. I can’t believe what I just saw,’” Nicholasville police officer Kevin Grimes said. “And, really, look at the debris field. You figure 55 or 60 mph came together and it was 120 mph.”
Grimes said it was unclear why the CRV crossed into the northbound lanes.
“We don’t know why, but it came into (the northbound lane) of traffic, and you see the point of impact,” Grimes said. “The injuries (for the CRV driver) do seem to be pretty severe. The other guy was standing around talking.
“The latest from (The University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center) was the (CRV driver) was still conscious upon arrival at the hospital’s emergency room, and that’s all we know at this point.”
The driver of the truck was not injured; Nicholasville firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extract the driver of the CRV from his vehicle before Jessamine County EMS transported him to the hospital.
Northbound and southbound traffic was rerouted around Howard and Elizabeth streets while emergency crews worked the scene.
The NPD’s accident-reconstruction unit is on the scene investigating, and as of 9:30 a.m., officials expected that stretch of U.S. 27 to remain closed for several more hours.
It’s going to be a while, and it could possibly take more than three hours,” Porch said."

Fatal accident on Egan Drive kills one.

"A motorcyclist died after crashing into a car on Egan Drive and West 12th Street at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The wreckage seen from the street indicated that the 2001 red and black Honda motorcycle was traveling on Egan Drive outbound and collided with a 2001 Subaru Outback that was turning left onto West 12th Street from Egan Drive inbound. Police confirmed that in a release Tuesday night.
Lt. David Campbell said in the release that a witness reported the motorcycle slowed down temporarily, but then sped up suddenly to try to pass the Subaru. Instead, the motorcyclist struck the Subaru’s front passenger side fender and was ejected from his bike, the release states. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
Police identified him as 27-year-old Larry Brandon Blatnick Jr. Next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the Subaru, whom police identified as 41-year-old Laura Hosey, was OK, according to her mother and sister, who were at the scene. Medics evaluated her on site and determined she didn’t need to go to the hospital, although she was shaken up, they said.
Police said Hosey did not display any signs of intoxication.
Responding police officers covered up the body lying on the sidewalk with teal and grey blankets and stood guard over him. A detective later spray-painted an outline of his form and took pictures for evidence.
Motorists driving past the accident craned their neck to see what was left of the motorcycle. An upside-down sneaker lay in the road, a red helmet on the grass near the sidewalk.
The left turn signal of the Subaru was still blinking. The front passenger door and the right portion of the front bumper was bashed in.
Police comforted a woman in white tank top and denim skirt who began crying hysterically when she frantically dashed to the scene from her van. She collapsed onto the pavement in tears, and a police officer crouched next to her and spoke with her.
A younger woman standing beside her later identified her as the girlfriend of the motorcyclist.
Immediately after the crash, a small group of people watched the aftermath from across the street at Harris Harbor.
Two tourists from Canada on the Celebrity Millennium cruise line were among those in the crowd, and said they were in the area when they heard a ‘boom’ and turned around to see what happened.
They watched as two men from a white Prindles Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Services van jumped into action and ran towards the accident that happened right in front of them.
“They tried to help him,” Ming Zhang, 50, said. “The ambulance came fast, maybe three to five minutes,” she added.
Police set up a perimeter around the wreckage with orange flares and yellow police tape, and redirected traffic around the accident. Traffic was shut between West 10th Street and Highland Drive down for about 3 1/2 hours.
Police say the investigation is ongoing."

Montgomery Police officer injured in crash this morning near police station.

" MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- A Montgomery Police officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after his unmarked car flipped in a traffic accident this morning at the intersection near the Montgomery Police Station.
The accident occurred at the intersection of North Ripley Street and Columbus Street around 10:45 a.m.
Update: The officer is being released from the hospital this afternoon, Montgomery Police Lt. Regina Duckett said. His name isn't being released.
Duckett said the crash involved an MPD unit and a van. The occupants of the van received minor injuries when it overturned.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Details of what happened will not be released until the crash report is completed."

Traffic is beginning to flow again through a Scottsdale intersection nearly six hours after a car crash took out power and caused a break in a natural gas main.

A speeding elderly motorist driving a Lincoln failed to negotiate a curve and hit a business at the intersection of 90th Street and Via Linda, striking an electrical transformer and the gas main that feeds a number of buildings in the area, according to Officer David Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.

The crash shut down the intersection of 90th Street and Via Linda and also created traffic headaches on the Loop 101.

Scottsdale traffic spokesman Bruce Dressel said power had been restored to the intersection's signal and the city traffic camera was operating again. He said northbound 90th Street and one of two westbound lanes of Via Linda remained blocked at 11 a.m.

The northbound off-ramp of Loop 101 at 90th Street and the southbound left lane to 90th Street from Loop 101 were still closed.

Dave Folio of the Scottsdale Fire Department said the driver was not hurt.

"On what one family member said was going to be his last day on the job, a 24-year-old limousine driver died yesterday morning in a horrific crash on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City, The Jersey Journal reports.
Usman Chaudhry, of Storms Avenue in Jersey City, was declared dead at the scene at 3:43 a.m. after crashing a 2009 Toyota Camry into the back of a tractor trailer in the right southbound lane just south of Secaucus Road, police said."

Driver in Dunkin' Donuts crash charged with DWI, assault by auto: cops.

"The driver who crashed into a Jersey City Heights Dunkin' Donuts last night, injuring eight people, has been charged with DWI, multiple counts of assault by auto and multiple motor vehicle violations, police said.
Police said Marco J. Guardiola, 55, of New York Avenue in Jersey City, was driving with a suspended license when his 1999 Isuzu Rodeo SUV smashed into the front of the crowded coffee shop at the corner of Central Avenue and Griffith Street at 8:40 p.m., spewing shards of glass everywhere.
He was treated for minor injuries at the Jersey City Medical Center and released into police custody this morning at 5 a.m. Guardiola's motor vehicle charges include reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt and failure to exhibit registration, a driver's license and proof of insurance.
Of the seven other people injured in the crash, two were at the scene by EMS and the other five were taken to the JCMC, officials said.
A 14-year-old girl who suffered head trauma, leg fractures and facial lacerations underwent a 3-and-a-half hour surgery and two women were admitted and are in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.
One of the women suffered multiple puncture wounds to her chest and back and abrasions on her arms and legs.
The Dunkin' Donuts reopened this morning, with plywood covering the huge glass panel that was broken last night."
