Location: Phoenix, Arizona

"PHOENIX -- A suspected car thief is dead after driving car into some concrete barriers in the area of 31st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard early Thursday morning.
According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department, the car was reported stolen from 4800 W. Encanto shortly before 4:30 a.m.
Both aerial and ground video from the scene show the mangled car, a 1986 Buick National, on its side.
The driver, an unidentified Hispanic male believed to be in his early 20s, was speeding east on Encanto Boulevard when he failed to negotiation the turn where the roadway bends on to southbound 31st Avenue.
"There's a concrete barrier there with some signage," explained Phoenix Police Lt. Chris Moore.
The car hit that concrete barrier went airborne, flying over a 7-foot chain-link fence before landing in a dirt lot. The Buick burst into flames on impact.
Bystanders ran to the car and put out the fire, but they were not able to save the driver.
Moore said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. That man died at the scene.
While it's not yet clear is alcohol or drugs were a factor in the deadly crash, Moore said speed is likely partially to blame."

Sheriff: Suicidal woman, 70, crashed head-on into pickup.

Date: 11/02/2011
Time: Around 10:30 P.M.
Location: Boise, Idaho
Vehicle(s) Involved: Buick LaCrosse, Dodge Dakota, Ford F-250

"BOISE, Idaho - A three car crash Wednesday morning was caused by a 70-year-old woman who was apparently trying to kill herself by driving into oncoming traffic, the Ada County, Idaho, Sheriff's Office says.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of State Street and Bogart Lane.

The sheriff's office says the woman from Eagle, Idaho, was driving a Buick LaCrosse eastbound on State State when she swerved into oncoming traffic and attempted to hit an oncoming vehicle. The two cars missed each other and the Buick returned to the proper lane.

But as the woman approached Bogart Lane, she again swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a Ford F-250 pickup truck, causing it to roll.

The 64-year-old driver of the truck was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He is currently in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Doctor's say he is expected to survive, but he remains in critical condition.

The sheriff's office says after the Buick hit the Ford truck, it then also struck the Dodge pickup truck that was driving behind the Ford. The 16-year-old driver of the Dodge was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.

Officials say the 70-year-old driver of the Buick was also taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Investigators say she told them she intentionally drove into oncoming traffic to attempt to kill herself.

The sheriff's office says that charges are pending against the 70-year-old woman, and that after its investigation it will forward that information to the prosecutor's office.

The woman's name is being withheld until charges have been filed."

Elba woman killed when car strikes tree on North Byron Road.

Date: 11/08/2011
Time: Around 03:50 P.M.
Location: Elba, New York
Vehicle(s) Involved: Buick Century

By Howard Owens - The Batavian

"State Police investigators are still uncertain about what caused a car heading westbound on North Byron Road this afternoon to go off the south shoulder and strike a tree on the driver's side.
Impact was right at the driver's seat and the car wrapped around the tree nearly to the point of the passenger's seat.
The driver, (censored), 67, of Elba, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Robert Yungfleisch.
The accident occurred about a half mile east of Log City Road, Elba.
Trooper John Szymkowiak was first on the scene and said he checked Brown's vitals and did not detect a pulse. He requested Mercy Flight be dispatched to the scene.
An Elba medic arrived minutes later and the medic was also unable to detect a pulse and other vital signs were negative. Mercy Flight was canceled at that point.
The initial call to 9-1-1 was at about 3:50 p.m. by another westbound driver who came over the top of a hill, just east of the accident location, and saw the car strike the tree.
The witness did not see enough prior to impact to help provide information on what caused Brown's car to go off the road.
Szymkowiak said it appeared Brown started to go off the road about 100 feet prior to impact with the tree and there were some signs of braking on the road surface.
"The cause is still under investigation," Szymkowiak said. "It could have been a medical issue. It could have been a deer in the roadway. We are looking at several things right now."
An autopsy will be completed to try and determine if the cause was medical."
