"Miraculously the five occupants of this Tacoma walked away from this crash with no injuries.

Elyria Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics responded to Route 57 (northbound) in front of the Elyria Holiday Inn for a reported roll over crash. The white Tahoe was traveling north on Route 57 around 3:30 a.m. when the truck went off the side of the road, rolling over and coming to rest in the ditch. All five, 2 females and 3 males, refused treatment or transport from the scene.

Elyria Police is investigating the crash."

Woman Pulls Into Path of Truck.

"An early morning crash in Columbia Station sent a mother and her baby to two different hospitals.

Lieutenant Glenn Peterson of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that around 8 a.m. Friday morning a woman pulled out of her driveway on Root Road in Columbia Station into the path of a northbound truck. The collision carried the car approximately 100 + feet. The truck, from Timber Wolf Crane Services from Medina, went off the road and into a yard on the west side of Root Road taking out shrubs and tress before stopping next to a utility pole. The woman was trapped in the vehicle with her baby, fully restrained, in the back seat of the car.


Lieutenant Stacey Borling of Columbia Township Fire Department said that extrication took 20 to 25 minutes. “When we arrived we saw that she was trapped so we mutual aided with surrounding departments and launched LifeFlight right away. We received help extricating the victim from Eaton Township and Olmsted Falls Fire Departments.” Lt. Borling said that the baby was not trapped and was still fully restrained in the back seat."

"A two-car crash in Elyria Township Saturday afternoon sent one child with his mother to the hospital.
Elyria Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Bell said that the injuries to the child were not serious but he would be checked out at Elyria Memorial Hospital. The Mustang was crossing Lake Ave when it was struck head on. No other injuries were reported."

Fatal Collison on Henderson Drive.

"A head on crash in Lorain Friday afternoon left one person dead at the scene trapped in a burning car.

Lorain Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics responded to Henderson Bridge for a reported head on car crash. When Police and Firefighters arrived on scene they found a small car fully engulfed in flames with a person trapped inside. The car, driven by a 70-year-old male whose name is not being released yet, was seen driving north on Henderson Drive heading to the Bridge when it crossed the median and slammed head on into a red pick up truck. Witnesses at the scene say that the driver was slumped over the wheel when they saw him strike a guardrail and orange construction barrels before striking the pick up truck. The driver of the truck received minor injuries in the crash.

The Lorain County Coroner will do an autopsy to determine if the driver died of a medical condition prior to the crash or if the crash and fire killed him.

The Lorain Police Department immediately blocked all traffic to the Lofton Henderson Bridge and kept it closed for several hours while Traffic Investigators examined the scene."

Woman in SUV Strikes Train.

"Wellington Fire District Firefighters responded to the railroad crossing on Quarry Road just south of Route 18 Sunday afternoon after a woman struck a train.

Firefighters were able to extricate 55-year-old Linda O. Lishchuk-Hupert of Parma in a short amount of time then she was turned over to the care of Metro LifeFlight Medical Crew. Lishchuk-Hupert was then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with multiple injuries; her condition is unknown at this time.

Arthur Palmer was stopped at the crossing on the north side when he saw Lishchuk-Hupert’s SUV heading toward him from the south. When asked if he tried to signal to the SUV, Palmer states that he did. “Yes, I flashed my lights but the vehicle kept coming, when the train crossed she hit the 2nd or 3rd engine." Palmer said that the SUV struck and took down the Cross Bucks before striking the train. Palmer also stated that the train had blown its horn 3 or 4 times before crossing.

There are no flashing lights or gates at this crossing but there are Cross Bucks located on each side.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash."

Woman Rolls Car Then Runs.

"Nancy Henceroth and her family were all sound asleep when a neighbor began pounding on their door. The neighbor, Lindsey Belcher, was trying to alert them that someone had struck their pick up truck that was parked on the road in front of their home. “We were in my back yard around the corner here playing Corn Hole when we heard the crash so we ran over here to see what happened.” When Belcher and her friends got to the scene the female driver was standing outside of the car already. Belcher said she asked the driver if she was ok, “She said “yeah I’m fine”, like all pissed off and then she just took off.”

Henceroth said her son had parked the car on the road about an hour or so before the crash. “He had just gotten home from work and parked the car on the road because he is going golfing in the morning.”

Police know the identity of the woman but at this hour have no located her yet."

Fatal Crash in Lorain.

"A one-car crash in Lorain early Saturday morning left one man dead after his car rolled over and landed in a yard on Euclid Ave.

Lorain County Coroner Dr. Paul Matus said that 19-year-old Richard Colon was driving his Honda Civic northbound on Euclid Ave when he tried to make a turn onto Lincoln when he lost control of his vehicle. The Civic rolled over and landed in a yard on the corner of Euclid and Lincoln, nearly missing hitting the home.

Lorain Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics responded to the scene and found Colon pinned under the car. They quickly realized that Colon had died at the scene. Dr. Matus said that Colon died from a fractured neck and head injuries.

The Lorain Police Department is investigating the crash."

Car Rams Apartment Building.

"One neighbor described the noise of the car hitting the building as a “bomb going off.” A man returning home to his apartment building on 6th Street believes he blacked out just before his car rammed the building.

Elyria Fire Department Captain Joe Pronesti said the car struck directly below an apartment window breaking through the façade and the interior masonry. “It’s not in any danger of collapsing, not totally, we just need to shore it up. Right now we’re waiting on the Building Department and the property manager to show up.”

Capt. Pronesti said that LifeCare Paramedics checked out the driver but the man signed off at the scene.

The driver, Theron Burnett, said that he was coming home and was parking his car when he all of a sudden blacked out. “It was my fault but I just blacked out. I don’t really remember it.”"

Car-Train Crash Kills Teen.

"A crash in Huntington Township between a car and train kills the teen driver and sends the passenger to the hospital.

Troopers at the scene say that a car driven by Amada White of New London was traveling south on Baker Road in Huntington Township when a westbound train at the Baker Road crossing struck it. Troopers say that White was killed on impact while her passenger 25-year-old Todd Dennis of Wellington was injured.

Wellington Fire District Chief Bob Walker said they were called to the scene around 6:45pm. Although extrication of the passenger only took about 15 minutes the location of the car made it difficult for Firefighters to get themselves and their equipment in there. From impact the car was pushed about 2,000 feet. “We were fortunate there was a corn field here with an access road where we were able to transport our extrication and EMS equipment back to the scene. The actual extrication time, once we got back there was only about 15 to 20 minutes but it was a lengthy process getting everything back there.”

Once Dennis was extricated from the vehicle he was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with critical injuries.
Chief Walker said that although they are not yet sure what happened in this case he wants to take this opportunity to remind people about the dangers of railroad crossings. “We need to respect the railway crossings, the trains don’t have a quick opportunity to stop. This train that goes through here usually moves reasonably slow, but it still takes them a long time to get stopped. You just have to give trains a lot of room.” Chief Walker said that this particular crossing does not have flashing lights or gates; rather it is equipped with what is called “Ohio Cross Bucks”. Cross Bucks are reflective signs used at rail crossings in rural areas, the signs show up at night when headlights hit them.  "

Train Collides With Car.

"A car that had been reported as driving erratically on Cleveland Street went off the road on East Bridge Street near the Lorain County Blood Bank this morning around 9am. The car came to rest on a set of railroad tracks behind the Blood Bank with the driver slumped over the wheel.

Elyria Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics were checking the people inside the car when they noticed a train come around the corner from the west. Elyria Police Officers on scene were instructing their dispatch to contact the railroad to stop the train and shut down the rails. The train continued toward the car while Firefighters and Medics scrambled to get the two people out of the car and placed in a safe area. The train was unable to stop in time and collided with the passenger side front of the Park Ave.

“This vehicle drove up the hillside here along side of the Blood Bank and hit some obstructions along side of the tracks and catapulted up onto the rails. Officers responded and the driver was slumped in the front seat at the time. The driver and his wife were pulled quickly and carefully from the wreckage. The call went into Conrail to stop the trains but they could not stop them in time. I will be examining the driver and have more details later today.” Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus

The woman in the car was flown from EMH to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland."

Elyria Teen Killed In Crash.

"The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that Jake P. Nolan, 18 of Elyria, was the driver of the Ford F-150 that crashed into the woods on Gore Orphanage Road late last night.

In a media release the State Patrol says that Nolan was southbound on Gore Orphanage when he “failed to negotiate a curve” around 12:30am. The truck then struck a guard rail and a tree before coming to rest deep in the woods. Nolan was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the truck. Nolan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drug and alcohol use is unknown at this time. The State Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.

During a conversation with TMC NEWS late last night at the scene, Lt. Peterson from the State Patrol said that counting this crash the number of fatal crashes for Lorain County this year is 10, there were 27 total in 2006. “This is actually our 4th fatal crash up here in Vermilion, Henrietta Township so we are going to start a Problem Behavior Identification Zone; we’re going to start working a little more diligently in this northern corner.” Last year the State Patrol did the same program in the southern portion of the county after there were 14 fatal crashes in that area. To this point there has only been one fatal cash in the southern townships this year and that was involving the farm tractor.

Peterson said that in all 4 fatal crashes in the northern area involved “aggressive driving”. “In other words there was excessive speed involved, alcohol involved and these are the kinds of things that if we’re up here and we can maybe stop them through educational things, engineering things. It’s like this crash, is there anything we can do to make this a safer curve, maybe bring the county garage out and look at their signs to see if there is anything they can do with that.”

Stop signs or not Lt. Peterson said it always comes back to the driver. “It always comes down to the driver, driving within reasonable means that he can always stop whatever the situation might be.”  "

Rollover on Route 2

"A man-driving west on Route 2, between Middle Ridge Road and Leavitt, late Saturday night went off the left side of the road and when he tried to get back in his lane he overcorrected and lost control. The truck he was driving spun and rolled over coming to a rest on its roof. The driver then fled the scene leaving the truck and hundreds of yards of debris. In the debris was the man’s Lorain County Metro Parks Ranger uniform, badge and gun belt, minus the gun. State Troopers, County Sheriff Deputies, Amherst Police Officers and Amherst Firefighters searched the area to find the gun.

The driver was later found at his home a short distance away with injuries to his arm and cuts on other parts of his body. LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics and Amherst Firefighters treated the man at his home while Ohio State Troopers and Lorain County Sheriff’s Deputies questioned the man. It was reported that the man had tried to claim that someone stole his pick up truck.

LifeCare took the man to Community Health Partners where he was later flown to Cleveland Metro Health Center."

"IT SOUNDED LIKE A BOMB GOING OFF

Those are the words of the Ashland Ave home in Lorain after a truck rammed into the side of their house Monday afternoon.

Luther Saylor was in the house watching TV at the time of the crash. “I was in my parents room watching TV and I heard screeching tires and normally you don’t hear anything after that but this time I heard a loud crashing noise.”

Saylor and his mother went outside to see what had happened when they saw the truck buried in their garage. The driver was still sitting in the truck but trying to get out. Mrs. Saylor said that from previous personal experience and from watching TV she knew that him moving around was not a good idea so she talked to him and told him to stay inside until help arrived. Lorain Firefighters and LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics arrived a short time later to render care to the driver. The man was later taken to Community Health Partners for further treatment. The Saylor’s said that he seemed groggy but no visible signs of injuries."

"A two car crash on Route 511 just east of Quarry Road sent three people to the hospital Saturday night.

Central Lorain County Ambulance District Paramedics with assistance from LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics, treated the three victims at the scene. Two were transported to Allen Medica Center in Oberlin with serious injuries and a third was taken in with minor injuries to be checked out. One of the victims was transported by ground from Allen ER to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.

The driver of this “green” minivan lost control of his vehicle going off the road and stopping only when the front of his van clips a pole. "A two-car accident today in Carlisle Township sent one to Elyria Memorial Hospital (EMH) with head injuries. The crash occurred in the intersection of Grafton Road & State Route 57. A car and mini van collided with the mini van ending up in a ditch and the driver needing medical attention. Carlisle Township, LifeCare Ambulance, Eaton Township and Central Lorain County Ambulance District responded to assist the victims. The driver and passenger of the first vehicle refused any treatment at the scene while Eaton Township Ambulance transported the driver of the mini van to EMH.

Car Crash Traps Three People.

A car heading east on Middle Ridge Road just east of Route 58 lost control and crashed head on into a tree trapping the driver and two passengers inside. Amherst Firefighters were called to the scene to extricate the three victims. LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics treated the three and transported them to Amherst Hospital. The vehicle speed was estimated at 60 miles per hour before the crash.

Truro head-on crash injures one.

"The head-on collision of a car and a dump truck closed Route 6 in Truro today near the turn-off for Route 6A.

The driver of the car, who was not identified by the police, was transported by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries.

The accident, the town’s second head-on crash on Route 6 in two weeks, happened about 11:30 a.m. when a northbound Toyota Camry apparently crossed into the southbound lane and collided with a heavy-duty dump truck owned by Noons Construction Co. of North Truro, said Truro Police Chief John Thomas.

The driver of the truck, who Thomas would not yet identify, was not hurt, he said.

Truro rescue personnel initially called for a helicopter to transport the driver of the car to Boston, but the helicopter was grounded due to inclement weather, Thomas said.

More than a dozen fire fighters, paramedics and police officers from Truro, Wellfleet, Orleans and Harwich have been at the scene. Some of the officers are members of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s accident reconstruction team.

Sand from the dump truck was strewn across the highway and the car’s front passenger side was crushed and pinned beneath the truck’s front-end."

"HYANNIS- At 1 PM this afternoon Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue responded to Route 28 between Airport Rotary and the Auto Zone Plaza across from Kent's Carpet Land for a 2 car rear end crash in which a Toyota Corolla headed toward the Airport Rotary hit the rear of a Ford pickup truck.
Traffic was tied up for 45 minutes while the the scene was cleared and Hyannis Rescue transported 1 person from the scene to CCH.
