Woman Rushed to Hospital after Cab in Crash Spins onto Sidewalk.

Date: 07/23/2012
Time: Around 7:00 P.M.
Location: Yorkville, Manhattan, New York City, New York
Vehicle(s) Involved: Ford Escape, Ford Crown Victoria

"YORKVILLE — A 28-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with head trauma after being struck by a taxi that spun onto the sidewalk at the southeast corner of Second Avenue and East 79th Street Monday night, police and witnesses said.
The SUV taxi that hit the woman had first been involved in a crash with a Crown Victoria cab before spinning out of control, witnesses said.
The unidentified woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, FDNY officials said. She was stable early Tuesday, an NYPD spokesman said.
Delti Braha, 29, doorman at the Continental Palace, near the intersection, ran outside to help the woman just after hearing the loud boom about 7 p.m.
"She was face down, bleeding," said Braha, who was told by others on the block that she had been standing on the street when the cabs got into the accident.
"[The SUV] slammed into her and she was on the floor," he said. "It's sad."
An NYPD spokesman said there was no criminality was suspected "at this time," and that both drivers remained at the scene.
How the accident occurred was not immediately clear.
Police officers at the intersection said the SUV cab was making a left turn from Second Avenue onto East 79th Street.  One witness said she screamed when she saw the Crown Vic because it was speeding eastward on East 79th Street just before the incident happened.
But the driver of the Crown Vic, who declined to give his name, claimed that the other cab passed a red light while going south on Second Avenue.
"He was running the red light, so he hit the [pedestrian]," the Crown Vic driver, who appeared unharmed, claimed. "I'm really sorry for her friends, for her family, her children, whatever she has. It is stupid. All for $5. …I'm very sad for her. Honest, it's crazy."
Braha said it was not uncommon for cars to go fast at that intersection.
"Everybody speeds up," he said. "They're trying to catch the lights.""

By TMC News

"Wellington Fire District Firefighters responded to the railroad crossing on Quarry Road just south of Route 18 Sunday afternoon after a woman struck a train.

Firefighters were able to extricate 55-year-old Linda O. Lishchuk-Hupert of Parma in a short amount of time then she was turned over to the care of Metro LifeFlight Medical Crew. When asked if he tried to signal to the SUV, Palmer states that he did. “Yes, I flashed my lights but the vehicle kept coming, when the train crossed she hit the 2nd or 3rd engine." Palmer said that the SUV struck and took down the Cross Bucks before striking the train. Palmer also stated that the train had blown its horn 3 or 4 times before crossing.

There are no flashing lights or gates at this crossing but there are Cross Bucks located on each side.

School bus slams into packed minivan on I-94, killing one.

Date: 05/30/2012
Time: Around 9:30 AM
Location: St. Paul, Minnesota
Vehicle(s) Involved: School Bus, Ford Escape, Honda Accord, Honda Odyssey

By Tad Vezner, Elizabeth Mohr and Mila Koumpilova

"Authorities have identified a woman who was killed and several others injured when a school bus, reportedly traveling at "freeway speeds," slammed into the back of a minivan trapped in slow-moving traffic, causing a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 94 in St. Paul.
The crash occurred at 9:28 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, near Cretin Avenue in the westbound lanes of traffic, according to Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske. The bus hit the van, which hit a Ford Escape, which hit a Honda Accord.
No children were on the bus.
(Censored), 75, of Roseville died at the scene. She was one of six people in the van and was sitting in the rear of the vehicle, the State Patrol said.
The five others were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
They included the driver, Loan K. Nguyen, 41, of St. Paul; and passengers Tuyet D. Duong, 71, of St. Paul; Hoa T. Ho, 65, of Shoreview; Bang T. Nguyen, 78, of St. Paul; and Hong T. Le, 73, of St. Paul.
The Escape tumbled onto its side but the driver, Jeffrey D. Radke, 36, of St. Paul, was not seriously injured, Roeske said. The driver of the Honda Accord sedan, Pamela Johnson, 45, of St. Mary's Point, was hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The State Patrol identified the bus driver as Tony Thao, 51, of Cottage Grove. Thao was treated and released Wednesday from Regions Hospital. He was not taken to the hospital by ambulance, the State Patrol said.
Everyone was wearing seatbelts, according to a State Patrol
accident report. A witness told the State Patrol that the school bus was approaching the slow-moving traffic "at freeway speeds" before slamming into the minivan, Roeske said. A preliminary report said the three cars in front of the bus were all slowing down at the time of the incident; witnesses said traffic was moving at about 15 mph.
As investigators examined the scene and tow trucks hauled away the wreckage, traffic was down to a single lane late Wednesday morning
Toya Stewart Downey, a spokeswoman for the St. Paul Public Schools, confirmed the accident involved a school bus operated by a contractor for the district, Minnesota Central Bus Co.
The bus was heading back to the company's depot, Stewart Downey said. The district does not yet know what routes the bus driver covered in the morning before wrapping up the shift, she added.
"The district has no jurisdiction or involvement in the crash," Stewart Downey said.
Frank Ciccarella, the director of safety and training for Minnesota Central Bus, refused to say how long Thao had been with his company or whether he had any prior infractions. He said only that his company was cooperating with the State Patrol.
"We are trying to ascertain what happened," Ciccarella said. "We don't know any of the details yet." "

Passenger dies in collision on Liberty Road.

Date: 09/19/2011
Time: Around 6:00 P.M.
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Vehicle(s) Involved: Ford Escape, Chevy Blazer

"One person died and another suffered possible life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening on Liberty Road that might have involved alcohol, Lexington police said.
The driver of a green Chevrolet Blazer headed west on Liberty Road lost control near a curve on Appletree Lane and crossed over the center line and into the path of an eastbound, silver Ford Escape, Lexington police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. The Escape hit the passenger side of the Blazer about 6 p.m., he said.
A male passenger in the back seat was thrown into the very back of the Blazer, van Brackel said.
(Name) 54, of Lexington was pronounced dead at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital at 6:41 p.m., according to a news release from the Fayette County coroner's office.
A female passenger in the Blazer's front seat was partially thrown out the driver's side door and was taken to UK with possible life-threatening injuries, Van Brackel said.
The two drivers also were taken to UK but did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, Van Brackel said.
Alcohol use by the driver of the Blazer is suspected, he said.
"I don't know if he was too fast for conditions or what caused him to lose control," Van Brackel said.
It appeared that no one in the Blazer was wearing a seat belt, he said, but the driver of the Escape, a 17-year-old boy, was wearing a seat belt.
The identities of those involved in the crash were not immediately available.
Several people in the neighborhood heard the collision and came out to help, Van Brackel said.
An accident reconstruction unit was called to the scene, and Liberty Road was shut down between Henry Clay Boulevard and Appletree for about five hours, he said.
Matthew Nichols, a Liberty Road resident, said the area has a high-volume of traffic.
"This is not the first time this has happened," he said. "It's supposed to be 35 mph through here ... but some people travel 55 through here.""
