One-Car Crash Closes Merritt Parkway In Westport.

"One person sustained moderate to serious injuries after crashing into a tree on the Merritt Parkway Saturday night, fire officials said.
The driver, who was not identified Sunday morning, was traveling in a 2003 Jaguar northbound on the Merritt Parkway when the car barreled into a tree on the right side of the roadway, Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee said.
The accident occurred just north of the North Avenue overpass between exits 42 and 44 around 8:30 p.m.
The car was severely damaged and the driver's side airbag had been deployed, Dingee said.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the driver still inside the vehicle, Dingee said.
The driver was pulled from the wreckage and transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital, Dingee said. A portion of the roadway was closed as crews worked to clean up the scene.
The Fairfield Fire Department and state police assisted local firefighters in the rescue effort and with putting out a vehicle fire that had ignited after the crash.
State police are handling the investigation."

Police: Man Seriously Injured In Torrington Crash.

The driver of a sedan that crashed into a parked car on Route 202 in Torrington early Friday morning was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said.
The driver, 29-year-old Jago Protz of New Hartford, speeding eastbound on East Main St. near St. John's Place when he lost control of his black Volvo sedan and struck a parked vehicle.
The parked vehicle, a red Volkswagen sedan, continued to travel forward crashing into the side of a bridge, knocking the bridge railing into the river.
After making contact with the parked vehicle, the Volvo crossed lanes and crashed into the opposite side of the bridge, police said.
Protz was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Litchfield with serious injuries He was expected to survive.
Route 202 near St. John's Place was closed but has since reopened to traffic.

VW Jetta on the right shoulder of the roadway. The Volvo continued to travel north east, across the center of East Main St, across the sidewalk on the south shoulder and struck the bridge railing on that side of the street."
