School bus careens into building after crash.

"NEW YORK (WABC) -- A school bus collided with a car and ended up slamming into a storefront in Brooklyn early Thursday.

The incident happened around 6:10 a.m. at the intersection of East 21st Street and Church Avenue in Flatbush.

Authorities say the mini school bus was hit from behind by a white four-door Toyota in the middle of the intersection after that driver ran a red ligth. Both vehicles went out of control, sending the bus careening into the building. The car crashed into a parked car.

Passengers of both vehicles were taken to Kings County Hospital and Maimonides Medical Center with unknown injuries. The bus driver and matron were hurt, but there were no children on the bus at the time.

18-Wheeler Crash Closes Dallas Tollway For Hours.

"DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Just before 4:30 p.m. all northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway, from Interstate-635 to Spring Valley Road were finally re-opened after a serious morning accident involving an 18-wheeler and two vehicles.

From about 9:45 a.m. until evening rush hour, northbound traffic was being diverted onto eastbound Interstate-635. The 18-wheeler was removed from the roadway just before 4 p.m.

As of 3:44 p.m. all southbound lanes of the Tollway, at I-635 , were open.

As Chopper 11 flew over the scene, minutes after the morning accident, at least one car could be seen underneath the trailer portion of the overturned semi. The truck was carrying a 30,000 pound load of cardboard.

Officials with the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) said the only major damage was to a light pole in the center median. The light is functioning, but will have to be replaced.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesman Lonnie Haschel said the crash happened as the semi was traveling the westbound I-635 ramp onto the northbound Dallas Tollway.

Haschel said the driver of the 18-wheeler was traveling too fast, crossed all three lanes of Tollway traffic, pushed an SUV through the concrete barrier and into southbound traffic, then fell over and landed on top of another car.

CBS 11 News has confirmed that 49-year-old Greg Meece, of  Sugarland, was injured and taken to Parkland Hospital. Meece was the driver of the car that was trapped beneath the 18-wheeler. Thursday afternoon he was in serious condition in the ICU.

The driver of the SUV was also taken to an area hospital.  That person’s condition isn’t known.

The driver of the semi was not injured, but Haschel said that individual will be charged with “failure to control speed.”

Some alternatives for east/west travelers might be – Beltline Road, Forest Lane, Royal Lane or Walnut Hill Lane. Alternatives for north/south travelers might be – Interstate-35, Lemmon Avenue (which turns into Marsh Lane), U.S. Highway 75 or Greenville Avenue."

Car crashes down 300-foot cliff, kills 2, injures 1.

"WASHINGTON FIELDS, WASHINGTON COUNTY  — Witnesses say a trio of adults were drinking Friday night and then driving erratically in a small car without headlights on before the mangled wreckage was discovered early Saturday morning at the bottom of a 300-foot cliff.
Sheriff's Underdeputy Bart Bailey would only confirm two people died as the result of the horrific crash in a popular camping and ATV area on Bureau of Land Management property southeast of the Washington town. He did say a third occupant of the car — believed by witnesses to be a woman — was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center for injuries likely to be severe.
Witnesses, however, said the trio — estimated to be between ages 26 and 32  — hung out with them at their campsite Friday night, where they shared some beers.
Afterward, the car was traveling erratically and without its lights on as it sped along dirt roads in pitch dark.
Another witness said the woman who survived was apparently knocked out for hours but was able to call for help from her cell phone when she regained consciousness this morning.
Authorities believe it will be days before they are able to retrieve the car, which landed on its top and was smashed into pieces. It may be that a crane will have to be used to pluck the wreckage from the deep ravine.
The sheriff's office has not said if the bodies of the two killed have been retrieved, nor have they released other details pertinent to the crash."

Motorcycle Crashes Into SUV Near Nederland.

"NEDERLAND, Colo. (CBS4) – A motorcyclist was headed up Boulder Canyon on Sunday when she lost control and crashed into an oncoming SUV.
The accident happened at about 4 p.m. on a curve of Highway 119 near Nederland, just east of the Barker Reservoir.
The rider, Andrea Aibner, 22, was thrown off the bike and hit the guardrail. The driver of the SUV saw her approaching and slowed down before impact, according to a witness.
Aibner was cited for careless driving. She was wearing a helmet and was hospitalized with what authorities said were minor injuries.
Officials closed the highway for a short time after the wreck."

"A Delray Beach man died in Orange County on Monday after the car he was riding in struck a parked vehicle on the side of the road, troopers said.
Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol show that sometime around 8:30 p.m., Jane Moriarty, of Delray Beach, was driving northbound on Florida's Turnpike, near the Orange-Lake county line, when her car veered off the roadway.
Moriarty's car hit the rear corner of Mekhrail Ibragimov's Dodge that was parked on the side of the road while the driver checked a tire. Her car spun out of control on impact. Her passenger, George Michael Brown, of Delray Beach, was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died. Moriarty was in serious condition, the FHP report shows. Ibragimov was not injured."

"GRANGER —A three-vehicle accident Friday evening sent one woman to a local hospital and created headaches for drivers in the area of Bittersweet Road and S.R. 23.

At the scene, WSBT's Clifton French says the crash occured just after 6 p.m. when a northbound car on S.R. 23 slowed to turn west on Bittersweet Road.
The car was rear-ended by a pickup truck, which sent the car into the southbound lane of S.R. 23. There the car and minivan collided.
As of 6:30 p.m., S.R. 23's southbound traffic is blocked and one lane is open for northbound traffic.
The woman's condition is unknown."

"EASTON - A multi-vehicle accident at 7:33 a.m. near the Maryland State Police-Easton Barrack closed both east and west lanes of U.S. Route 50 for several hours. The west lanes have reopened to traffic; the east lanes will remain closed, likely until at least 2 p.m. as police continue accident reconstruction.The accident involved at least three vehicles - two cars and an SUV.

Police directed traffic onto the Easton Parkway, where traffic became congested.

The Route 50 accident happened about the same time as an accident on the Parkway at Marlboro Road. Then, a short time later, another accident on Royal Oak Road near Bellevue Road sent one person to a trauma center. Royal Oak Road has since reopened."

"Police have named the four men killed when a four-wheel drive vehicle crashed near Putorino in Hawke's Bay.
They were Jack Huata, 64, and Paul Thomas Parata (known as Boydie), 48, both of Raupunga, and Lou Phillip Wesley, 47 and James Raupita, 42, both of Waihua.
The men lay undiscovered for more than seven hours before locals found them.
When volunteer firefighter Gary Mackintosh, 52, reached the mangled wreckage of the Mitsubishi Pajero, he realised two of the dead were his life-long friends Huata and Parata.
Mackintosh took some comfort from the four bodies looking "quite peaceful".
"It wasn't gruesome or anything like that. There were no horrific injuries."
Headlights from the wreck had been seen by dairy farmer Dianne Torr as she drove through the area at 7.30am yesterday. She raised the alarm.
Police told Mackintosh that the men had probably been dead since about midnight.
The crash contributed to yesterday's rising holiday road toll.

It claimed the lives of farmhands working at Moeangiangi Station - the same station four shearers had been heading home from when they died in a crash in January.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in both crashes.
Mackintosh said the bodies of two of those who died in yesterday's crash were in a paddock, and two in the car.
Huata and Parata were "great, happy-go-lucky buggers" ... They'd never do you any harm, those ones."
Both were employed as general hands at Moeangiangi Station, where they had worked for more than 10 years, and both came from nearby Raupunga.
"I got there, and saw there was nothing we could do. So I searched the gullies just in case there was someone else, who might have been thrown out or crawled away."
The vehicle was a wreck. "One of the cops thought we must have cut the roof off. But we hadn't."
Mackintosh had attended many fatal crashes in more than 15 years as a volunteer firefighter, including the crash near Wairoa in January that killed the four shearers. Yesterday's was one of the worst he had seen.
Police told The Dominion Post yesterday that the men had been drinking at a local pub on Saturday night before the crash.
They could not say if they had been wearing seatbelts.
Torr, a local dairy farmer, said she had stopped after seeing headlights shining from a paddock while she drove to work.
She stumbled across the bodies of two men - men she recognised and spoke to four or five times a week.
"The car lights were still on. I saw a couple of bodies and at that stage I thought I don't need to look any further."
The men were lying face down. "I went up to them but didn't touch them because I knew they were dead."
Police are continuing their investigation into the crash and say they are still trying to establish when it occurred.

Boynton Beach Blvd. reopened after crash left 1 man dead, 2 hospitalized.

"BOYNTON BEACH — City police have identified a man who died in an automobile accident that closed Boynton Beach Boulevard in both directions just west of the Interstate 95 overpass for nearly four hours Friday afternoon.
Police identified the man as (Censored), 79, of Boynton Beach.
The crash, which involved five vehicles and a trailer, occurred at about 2:35 p.m. Friday. Two other people involved in the crash were taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said.
Pierre was behind the wheel of a gold four-door Acura headed westbound on Boynton Beach Boulevard at a high rate of speed, city police Sgt. Rich McNevin said. When the car reached the intersection of Old Boynton Road, the traffic signal was red, but the Acura kept going and "plowed" into the back of a pick-up truck that had stopped for the red light, McNevin said.
The collision sent both vehicles into the intersection, where they hit several other vehicles, including some that were crossing the intersection to drive eastbound on Boynton Beach Boulevard, police said.
According to information released Friday night, the pickup struck a second truck. Pierre's Acura struck the trailer on another vehicle. The trailer then hit a fifth vehicle.
The occupants of that vehicle were the ones taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
City police will consider whether Pierre had a medical episode prior to the crashes.
Frank Kuzak, 64, of Boynton Beach was preparing to turn north from Boynton Beach Boulevard onto Old Boynton Road when the front left side of his car was struck. He said he thinks something had happened to the driver of the Acura because he didn't appear to make any effort to stop.
"No squealing. Nothing," Kuzak said. "All I heard is crash."
Boynton Beach Boulevard was closed westbound from Industrial Way and eastbound to the 800 block near the Casablanca Isles community while officers investigated the crash."

Police: Driver of stolen vehicle dies after chase, crash

"ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
The driver of a stolen car died after crashing the car during a police chase in Buckhead Wednesday morning.
Police said the incident began when an officer was handling a report of a stolen vehicle.  When the officer put the description of the stolen vehicle over the radio, another officer spotted it traveling on Peachtree Road.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, police said. The driver pulled over, but when the officer got out of his patrol car, the driver fled, according to police.
After a short chase, the stolen vehicle ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection of Peachtree Battle Avenue.  A third vehicle was also struck.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was trapped in the car briefly, police said.
"The firemen came," said Lola  Rocquemore, who works nearby. "They got the jaws of life and they cut the man out, and they brought him out and they put him on a stretcher.  He wasn't moving when they took him out. I just pray for him and for all of the people."
The driver was taken to Grady Hospital in critical condition and taken into surgery.  At 10:25 a. m. he died.  Police have not identified the suspect.
Paramedics also rushed the drivers of the other two cars to hospitals. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, police said."

1 killed in Gulf Freeway rollover.

"TIKI ISLAND — One person was killed in a two-car, rollover wreck that closed the southbound main lanes of Interstate 45 on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Police, firefighters and a medical crew were called shortly before 4 p.m. to the southbound lanes just south of Exit 5. That area is south of Bayou Vista and just north of Tiki Island.

One person died from the wreck, Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.

Authorities at the scene weren’t immediately available for comment. The Department of Public Safety office in Texas City confirmed the wreck involved two cars and that troopers were handling the investigation.

The overturned car came to rest in the inside emergency lane. The second car believed to be involved stopped in the frontage road entrance ramp south of the overturned car.

Authorities routed traffic off the I-45 main lanes onto the frontage road at Exit 5. The freeway was reopened at 7:30 p.m.
